I'm not an exclusive, 5-star-hotel-kinda traveller. Budget stays and simple Airbnbs are much more my thing. I recently went to Cologne, and we booked a simple Premier Inn a mere 10-min walk away from a conference I was attending. Not only was the train station directly next to it, but I was pleasantly surprised just how comfortable the hotel was. The room was spacious. Mind you, our window was facing a courtyard so not the most exciting view but it made for quiet nights and peaceful sleep.
The hotel lounge was the most beautiful I had seen in a budget hotel like this. It was carefully decorated, with nice interior touches throughout. Plenty of space so you can work on your laptop comfortably. And the best part was it was quiet. Cosy. Exactly what I needed to get my head down and work.
